What actually gets truncated
Google truncates snippets by available pixel width, not character count. A desktop title has roughly 580 pixels and a mobile title roughly 480, so wide characters such as capitals and m or w eat the budget faster than narrow ones. This tool measures rendered width and shows the cut point instead of quoting a character rule.
Treat the limits as guidance rather than law: Google also rewrites titles and descriptions when it judges the page offers a better match for the query. Writing a specific, accurate tag is the most reliable way to keep your own wording.
