Anchor text checker
Paste the anchor texts pointing at a page and see how the distribution reads. Runs entirely in your browser, no account, nothing uploaded.
Check your distribution
How the buckets are decided
Anchors are sorted into five buckets: exact match (identical to your keyword), partial match (contains the keyword or all its significant words), branded (contains your brand name), bare URL, and generic phrases such as “click here” or “read more”. Anything else is counted separately as a longer descriptive phrase. The classification happens in your browser using the keyword and brand you supply.
There is no official safe ratio, so this tool does not invent one. It shows you the shape of the profile and flags the pattern that most often accompanies bought links: keyword anchors making up a large share of the total.
Frequently asked questions
What is anchor text?
The clickable words in a link. Search engines use it as one signal of what the destination page is about, which is why an unnatural pattern across many links can look manipulated.
What is a natural anchor text distribution?
There is no official ratio, and any tool quoting one is guessing. In practice, editorially placed links skew heavily towards branded, URL and generic anchors, with exact match keyword anchors as a small minority. A profile where exact match anchors dominate is the pattern most associated with paid or templated links.
Does this tool send my data anywhere?
No. The whole calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.
How do I fix an over-optimised profile?
Stop requesting specific keyword anchors. When you pitch, suggest the page and let the editor choose the wording. Over time, new branded and contextual anchors dilute the pattern; removing existing links is rarely necessary or possible.
